A private-tree removal permit is generally required when both conditions apply: the tree is 30 cm or more in diameter, measured at 1.37 m above ground, AND the tree is more than 2 metres from an occupied building.
Brampton's woodlot definition begins at 0.2 hectares and also considers tree-density criteria. Work that alters a qualifying woodlot may require separate review or permit requirements depending on the project and approval context.
